Customer Success Stories
Get inspired by examples of creative redevelopment that have enriched communities, driven economic vitality, and transformed public land.
Bringing a hundred year-old school building back to life
When the Town of Swampscott, MA, located just north of Boston, was preparing to offer a historic 95-year old former school building for redevelopment, they turned to OpportunitySpace to get the word out. By listing the Request for Interest on the OpportunitySpace platform, the Town was able to draw five feasible proposals from established developers in about a month’s time.
When the tactical urbanists at the non-profit City Collaborative and University of Louisville’s Urban Design Studio wanted to launch ReSurfaced, a pop-up festival and beer garden, they turned to OpportunitySpace to find their ideal site. By connecting with city-owned property, the creative team was able to build a popular community gathering space that’s now in its third season.
Blue Heron outdoor bar
Central Falls, RI
In Central Falls, Rhode Island, two local entrepreneurs transformed the parking lot of a dormant mill building into an outdoor bar using only shipping containers and pallets. By showing that the banks of the picturesque Blackstone River could attract locals and visitors alike, the Blue Heron bar set the stage for the long-awaited redevelopment of the mill building.
Lots of Possibility
OpportunitySpace helped the Louisville Metro Government stage a vacant lot competition, soliciting diverse ideas from within the community to transform empty spaces into productive places. Today, a dye farm operates on a once-idle tract of land, reinvigorating a neighborhood and engaging the community.
Bringing the Chicago Riverwalk to life
OpportunitySpace worked with World Business Chicago to help the City of Chicago attract a vibrant mix of retailers to set up shop along the newly completed Riverwalk in the heart of downtown. Today the Riverwalk is a major destination, lined with dining, recreational, and educational vendors that help to draw hundreds of thousands of Chicagoans and tourists.
